Anthony Johnston
I have been working with the singing voice for over fifteen
years, and I have worked with people from all walks of life, and with many
different organisations - in universities, for corporations, government bodies
and as a voice coach for rock bands.
I am director of Eastern a Cappella, co-director of Singing
Mountain Choir, and I have been musical director of the Bristol based youth
choir WorldRoots Voice Ensemble for five years. I have a passion for the vocal
music of Georgia, the Balkans and Corsican Polyphony - a journey that has taken
me to work with some of the finest teachers and ethnomusicologists working in
their field today. I have visited the Republic of Georgia and Corsica to study
and experience these living polyphonic singing traditions first hand.
As a qualified Music teacher, I am able to draw on
traditional approaches to music and combine those with other disciplines in the
area of creative expression and communication.
Modern day communication techniques have greatly influenced
my approach to the voice, in particular Enlightenment Intensives and Mind
Clearing, two methods of personal growth that I have studied and trained in.
Over the last 17 years I have developed an approach to voice work that I believe
is direct, respectful and liberating.
